The client required a new build single storey fire station on a green field site, comprising of 3 bay appliance garages with associated ancillary rooms and extensive site woks.
The design incorporates the very latest in sustainable and renewable energy including:

• Geothermal Heat Pump for under floor heating
• Solar Tubes
• Solar Tubes
• Water Conversation
• Heat Recovery System


The capital expenditure for the Electrical & Mechanical Installations was £300,000. The project was undertaken within an 11 month programme

The Mechanical Installation included:

• Heating Installation (Main Building and Appliance Bay)
• Ventilation Installation
• External Mains Water Installation
• Water Conversation
• External Plumbing and Heating Installation
• Boiler House Installation; this required the installation of a Hoval Pelllet Boiler with associated Fule, Pipe works and BMS Controls

The Electrical Installations included:

• Distribution
• General Power & Lighting
• Emergency Lighting
• Fire Alarm Installation
• Intruder Alarm
• PA
• Automatic Call out system, integrating to the gates & door controls, lighting and fire service systems

Given the nature of the build, planning, co-ordination and execution of the works between all trades and specialists became vital to the success of the project.

To overcome this element we implement various strategies ensuring successful delivery to the client. We immediately started into creating a live working Design & Co-ordination Group that involved all key personnel from Designers (M&E), Main Contractors representatives and Specialist Sub Contractors. We found that this process eased the procurement process and teased out any difficulties from the Engineering and Installation Methodologies. These meeting were held fortnightly and targets with Achievement Measurements were set for the forthcoming fortnight.

We worked closely with our specialist sub contractors, drawing and building upon close working relationships to ensure the specified systems were the optimal solution for the client and the building. Our commitment to participate with our M&E Designers to arrive at the optimum design, which met the client’s brief for the best life cycle costs. We utilise our supply chain to achieve the best construction solution, whilst maintaining the quality of the design.
